A number of services are provided at the Family Medicine Center.  Below are some of the services and specialties that are available at the Pickens location.

Specialties and In-patient Care
The Duke Family Medicine in-patient service, including obstetrics, is located at Duke University Medical Center. Most patients, except OB, will be on the 8th floor of Duke North.

We have an in-patient care team that includes family medicine faculty, family medicine residents, medical students and physician assistant students. The faculty lead of the team changes on a weekly basis. The residents and students rotate monthly.

Laboratory

The laboratory hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Most lab tests are drawn as part of an office visit. However, lipid panel and glucose (sugar) tests require a 12 hour fast. This means that if you come for a lab-only visit at 8 am, you should have nothing by mouth from 8 pm the night before. You may have water and black coffee.

Test Results:

    • We will contact you if your test is abnormal

    • Lab staff and nurses cannot give out test results
