Department of Community and Family Medicine

Overview

Research programs in the Department are primarily clustered into four broad groups:

methods of improving patient understanding of risk of illness and barriers to receiving care
studies of patterns of illness and use of health services
workplace exposures and illness
use of information technology to improve care
Site Based Research

Additional programs exist in each of the divisions, ranging from animal models of disease (Physical Therapy) to studies of outcomes of new models of care (Community Health, Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine). In addition, the Department coordinates training in Public Health for Duke medical students.
